Rose's Symbiote

This was the first of my final series of paintings for High school, a trio. I learned a technique of lamar varnish and linseed oil to make extremely thin layers of oil paint, to make it act nearly like watercolor, and used that for the portrait part. I did the underpainting in Pthalo Blue. The symbiote creature crawling around the subject - one of my sisters - I used a thicker painting technique so it would stand out more, and seem more solid, less ghostly.
